Former Teacher Sentenced

***UPDATE WEDNESDAY 6:39 P.M.***Cole County prosecutor Mark Richardson tells ABC 17 News he felt the community wanted Knehans behind bars for some amount of time. He says there is a well defined line of what a student teacher relationship should be, and Knehans crossed that line.”Especially with special relationships such as teacher student in a public school that we hope the forefront of somebody’s mind will be, this is something that will result in actual incarceration,” Richardson says.The jail sentence began immediately. Knehans went straight from the court room to the jail in handcuffs.Knehans also has to register as a sex offender.***UPDATE WEDNESDAY 9:17 A.M.***Christopher Knehans was sentenced to three years supervised probation for count one and 60 days in the Cole County Jail for count two.In court, his lawyer argued for a lesser sentence, saying Knehans has been through hell, cannot find a job and has had to leave the area due to media attention.***ORIGINAL STORY***A former Jefferson City teacher and band instructor will be sentenced in court Wednesday for inappropriately touching a female student.Christopher Knehans pleaded guilty in December 2012 to two counts of sexual contact with a high school student. The two instances of inappropriate touching happened in September 2011.Knehans was the band instructor at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and an assistant at Jefferson City High School. Knehans has already lost his teacher’s license. He resigned back in March 2012, six months after he was first accused.Under a plea agreement, Knehans will face a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 60 days in jail for one of the counts. There is no agreement on the sentencing for the other count.
