Man Arrested After Shooting

***UPDATE THURSDAY 9:35 A.M.***Columbia police and Boone County Sheriff’s detectives believe 29-year-old Justin Campbell took part in a series of crimes on Wednesday.Columbia police say Campbell was involved in an attempted armed robbery on Wednesday morning. Around 10:45 a.m., officers were called to the 1800 block of Gordon Street for the robbery.A 54-year-old victim told police Campbell returned to his home and pulled a handgun on the victim. Campbell allegedly demanded money and when the victim told Campbell he had no cash, he was struck in the head twice with the butt of the gun. Cops say Campbell then fled the scene.Then around 12 p.m., 31-year-old Beau Leach was dropped off by a private vehicle at University Hospital with three gunshot wounds to the torso. Leach told investigators after surgery that he and Campbell got into an argument and Campbell shot him.Just after 1 p.m., Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 3000 block of Old Ridge Road for an armed burglary. Two housekeepers reported that a suspect forced his way into the home, showed a handgun, then stole money, a computer and an iPad. Detectives say Campbell is the suspect in the burglary.Fulton police then stopped the suspect’s vehicle around 4 p.m. Wednesday and took Campbell into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers found a handgun laying on the floor of the car. The gun’s magazine allegedly was three rounds short of capacity. Detectives searched the car and discovered several pieces of evidence that link Campbell to the crimes.A female in the car told officers she was with Campbell the entire day and drove him to all of the locations in Columbia and Boone County.Campbell was arrested for first degree assault, armed criminal action, second degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. His bond for the second degree assault has been set at $4,500. Bond amounts are still pending for the other charges. Campbell is currently in the Boone County Jail.***UPDATE 10 P.M.***Boone County Sheriff’s Department investigators tell ABC 17 News shooting suspect Justin Campbell is now linked to a home invasion and robbery in Columbia on Wednesday.The armed robbery occurred around 1 p.m. in the 3000 block of Old Ridge Road. Campbell is accused of showing a handgun to two housekeepers and robbing the home. Campbell allegedly got away with cash and electronics.***UPDATE 8:15 P.M.***Law enforcement have arrested an individual in connection with the shooting Wednesday afternoon.Columbia police say the gunshot victim, 31-year-old Beau T. Leach, was dropped off at University Hospital. After surgery, Leach told detectives 29-year-old Justin R. Campbell was the person who shot him.Detectives informed the Fulton Police Department that Campbell may be in their area. Around 4 p.m., Fulton cops took Campbell into custody. Details involving Campbell’s arrest have not been released at this time.Investigators believe the shooting was over illegal drugs and methamphetamine. The investigation is still ongoing, but cops believe Campbell may have been involved in another incident prior to the shooting.In March 2012, Leach was arrested for distribution/manufacturing a controlled substance after a trailer home caught on fire on Vandiver Drive. Police found an active meth lab inside of the trailer.University officials say Leach is in fair condition Wednesday night.***ORIGINAL STORY***Columbia police are trying to figure out who shot a man in the chest Wednesday and where the shooting happened.Around noon, the victim was dropped off at the University Hospital in a private car.All police know at this time is that the victim was dropped off by someone after he was shot.
