Columbia man sentenced to 15 years for deadly motorcycle crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was sentenced to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on Monday for a deadly 2018 crash involving a motorcycle.

The crash originally happened in April 2018 when Aaron Monroe was driving a motorcycle with a woman passenger on Paris Road. Police suspected Monroe had been drinking and ran a red light, which caused him to hit a car.

Monroe and Michele Groves were ejected from the motorcycle, and Groves later died from her injuries.

Monroe was originally charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and DWI on Monday. He was sentenced to 15 years for each charged, to be served at the same time.
