Tracking a much-needed warm up today

sun

WEDNESDAY: We’re tracking more sunshine to pair with a southerly breeze with some gusts up around 20-25 mph. That will help temperatures get into the low to mid 50’s, so try to get out and enjoy it while it’s here!

TONIGHT: We stay mild as clouds return and our wind out of the south keeps up. Lows only bottom out near 40. Some scattered sprinkles will be possible after midnight.

EXTENDED: A little better coverage is expected in the 7-10 AM range tomorrow but will still be off and on throughout the day. Highs will top out in the mid to upper 40’s around midday before cooling off during the afternoon. That cold air looks like it’s going to catch up to the moisture before departing east. This could change our rain over to some snow, but it isn’t expected to create any problems. Things look to wrap up tomorrow evening. Friday looks quiet and sunny with highs in the 30’s. Saturday we’re tracking another disturbance moving in. It will be cold enough that if this system brings enough moisture, it would fall as snow. It’s still a pretty big if at this point, but amounts look light.

The bigger concern is the Arctic air pushing southward at the same time. Saturday night will be the worst, with lows in the single digits and some gusty northwest winds. We’ve issued a Weather Alert Day for Sunday and Monday for the cold expected. Wind chills will fall below zero for most, if not all, of mid-Missouri. We’re stuck in the teens Sunday afternoon, and will fall into the single digits again Sunday night. Wind chills don’t look quite as extreme, but still dangerous nonetheless.
