Nurse collects clothes for homeless COVID-19 patients

WORCESTER, Massachusetts (WCVB) — A registered nurse working at a COVID-19 field hospital in Massachusetts is going above and beyond the call of duty.
Rebecca DeCoteau, who works in the field hospital at the DCU Center in Worcester, says a number of the patients are homeless and many of them had little to no clothing.
“They came in with what they were wearing,” DeCoteau said. “They either didn’t have family to bring them extra clothing or they just didn’t have much to wear.”
DeCouteau says she did not want to send patients back out into the cold winter weather without the proper attire, so she decided to start collecting clothes.
She is hoping her efforts reduce any stress patients may feel about being warm when they are discharged.
“When someone is struggling to breathe the last thing they want to worry about is what they are wearing,” DeCouteau said.
The clothing items DeCouteau is collecting include warm jackets, sweatshirts and pants. Unused undergarments and socks can also be donated.
