No. 9 Mizzou wrestling tops two Top 20 teams

AMES, Iowa (KMIZ)

The No. 9 Mizzou wrestling team improved to 7-0 on the season after beating two Top 20 teams on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers beat No. 10 Iowa State, 31-7, and No. 20 Northern Iowa, 34-6.

"We wrestled two really good teams and we won a lot of tight matches," Head coach Brian Smith said in a statement released by the team. "We gutted out some very tough wins. We had guys stepping up across the lineup and getting bonus points. We had guys finding a way to win and that's important this time of the year. We're going to continue to get better and have a lot of things to work on. To walk out of Hilton Coliseum with two ranked dual wins, that's pretty big."

Former Hickman star Jeremiah Kent and former Tolton star Brock Mauller both went 2-0 on Sunday. Former Blazer Jarrett Jacques won his first match by technical fall, but he lost his second match to the No. 3 ranked wrestler in the nation.

Up next - MU will host Northern Illinois and Ohio on Saturday starting at noon.
