JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri state troopers say a Columbia man was killed in a Jefferson City officer-involved shooting Sunday morning.

The highway patrol said 59-year-old James Reising was killed in the shooting after he allegedly threatened police with a large knife.

The police department initially reported Reising was from the St. Louis area. MSHP Troop F spokesman Cpl. Kyle Green said the man had lived around St. Louis previously but that his most recent address was in Columbia.

A release from the highway patrol said police officers were called to a shopping complex in the 3500 block of Missouri Boulevard around 11:46 a.m. on Sunday. Troopers included in the release that Reising pulled out a knife and ignored verbal commands to drop it.

Officers fired their weapons striking Reising, according to the release. He was taken to a Jefferson City hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

No police officers were hurt in the shooting.

The highway patrol division of drug and crime control has started investigating the shooting.
