Tracking bitterly cold wind chills for Christmas morning

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and bitterly cold with lows near 10. Winds gust from the northwest, bringing wind chills down below zero. A Weather Alert Day is in effect for Friday morning.

TOMORROW: Frigid in the morning followed by sunshine and lighter winds shifting back south. Highs in the upper 20s to around 30. Wind chills in the upper teens to low 20s.

EXTENDED: We finally get a break from the brutally cold air as the arctic air mass moves east and winds shift southwest on Christmas Day. Temperatures get back to near 50 on Saturday and Sunday with more sunshine. A brief disturbance moves through on Sunday, bringing colder temperatures to start next week. Another strong storm system could bring mixed precipitation to the area on Tuesday, followed by much needed rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. A few light snow showers will be possible on New Year's Eve as temperatures start out in the 20s in the morning. Stay with ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather as the forecast evolves.
