Investigators: Man accused of weekend murder had items relating to shooting someone in search history

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police say a man accused of a weekend Killing on Juniper Circle had multiple items relating to shooting someone in his search history.

Andrew Scott Lucas, 54, of Columbia, was charged with one count of second-degree murder on Sunday.

Lucas' Probable Cause statement says officers responded to a residence in the 1900 block of Juniper Circle just before 2 a.m. on a report of a man being shot. Officers said Lucas had a gunshot wound to his abdomen and that 51-year-old Robyn Lucas was a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said in the probable cause statement that Lucas reported a masked person wearing all black clothing had broken into the residence and shot him. Investigators said in the court document said there were no signs of forced entry inside the home.

Lucas alleged the subject had shot him with a small silver handgun -- he told police in an interview after the shooting that he had also purchased a similar style weapon weeks before the shooting. The court document said Lucas had taken the gun to a shooting range but that it had been stolen days later. Police said in the probable cause statement that the murder weapon was not found at the scene.

Officers searched Lucas' phone and found several search items including, "shooting someone," "shot with 38," "shooting people in the groin," according to the probable cause statement. When asked about the search terms Lucas told investigators he had heard shooting someone in the neck or abdomen was a "good way to commit suicide."

Lucas allegedly told police he and the shooting victim had been living together but that the other person said they were going to start seeing other people. The court document said Lucas purchased a handgun around the time he found out the two would not be getting back together.

As of Monday morning, Lucas was in Boone County Jail custody being held without bond.
