Ashland police stop vehicle in high speed chase

ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)

One man was taken to the Boone County Jail after allegedly leading officers on a high speed chase early Saturday morning.

According to a press release, officers chased 19-year-old Matthew J. Murphy in a Hyundai Sonata after he was driving on northbound Highway 63 at 107 miles per hour.

According to police the driver would not stop the vehicle and led them on a chase reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour.

Columbia police and the Boone County Sheriff's Department also assisted during the chase.

Murphy was taken into custody in southeast Columbia.

He is facing charges of resisting arrest by fleeing, careless and imprudent driving, and possession of marijuana.
