More Patriots test positive for COVID-19, Chiefs move forward with caution

KANSAS CITY, Mo (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Chiefs said they are continuing with their regular COVID-19 protocols, following a Monday night meeting with the New England Patriots.

New England quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 on October 3, which pushed the meeting between the two teams back to Monday night.

The NFL reported that Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, following his meeting with Kansas City.

The league said the team canceled their Wednesday practice and will move forward with virtual meetings.

As for the Chiefs, Andy Reid said his team will continue to move forward with caution.

"We're all wearing masks, we've been doing that, wearing shields and whatever," he said. "We've tried to keep our nose and our mouth covered, the best way we possibly can, and try to be as safe as we can off the field. Everyday is a new experience that you have to work through."

Following Kansas City's win on Monday night, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was seen interacting with Gilmore on the TV broadcast.

Mahomes said, as a player, you just have trust the protocols put in place by the league.

"Obviously, knowing that I went up to him after the game and just gave him a high-five like I've done my whole career and not thinking about it, was a little bit of mental lapse," he said.

The quarterback said he is going to continue to do his best and wear a mask, especially with new circumstances at home with his fiancee.

"It's something I think about every single day, you have to, especially with her being pregnant and in that high-risk category," Mahomes said.
