Owner plans to board up office building damaged by tornado
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The owner of 1716 Four Seasons Dr. plans to secure the property after Jefferson City declared the building dangerous and put an abatement on it last week.
The large office building has an estimated 4 to 5 million dollars in damage from the May 22 EF3 tornado, said the Illinois-based real estate businessman and property owner Darin Revermann.
He said he's planning to get the building boarded up and parking lot cleared of debris.
"We didn't think we would have to do that," he said. "We thought we would have a decision by now where we would be going."
He said he was been working with his insurance company and a public adjuster to decide whether to demolish or repair the property, and he plans to make a decision in the next 30 days.
The Missouri Department of Social Services, Cole County Family Services and several others rented office space in the building prior to the tornado.
"Right now we don't have a tenant," he said. "It's hard to rebuild without a tenant so that's one thing we have to take into consideration."
While cleaning up his own property, Revermann was a witness to post-tornado looting.
"We were calling police constantly," he said. "Some people were looking and some were taking."
Revermann testified at the Cole County Courthouse Monday.
The jury found Adam S. Brandt, 40, guilty of unlawful gun possession, unlawful use of a weapon, drug possession and two counts of receiving stolen property, Cole County Prosecuting Attorney Locke Thompson said in a news release.
"They ended up stealing motorcycles from Kansas City," Revermann said. "They were coming here all with an intent to steal."
