Drug trafficking charges after hotel disturbance incident

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A trespassing call on Sept. 12 at a hotel in east Columbia leads to drug trafficking charges.

In the probable cause statement, Columbia Police report a front desk employee at a hotel on the 2900 block of Clark Lane alert police to a man trespassing in a room on the upper floors. That man was making death threats to people in the room.

The man making threats, Craig Washington, was registered to the room for several days.

When Columbia Police and a hotel employee attempted to contact people in the room, no one answered. In court documents, the employee opened the room. Police say they found marijuana and meth in plain view on the bed. Police then filed for a warrant and went back to seize fentanyl, meth, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia. Police also found a driver's license for Craig Tope. Washington is an alias Tope uses according to police in the probable cause statement.

Top faces two counts of drug trafficking charges according to Missouri Case Net. Both are 2nd-degree felonies.

Tope had a $50,000 bond was set Thursday. Tope's trial date has been set for Oct. 8.

Tope faces a minimum of five in prison and up to 15 years.
