COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An SUV hit and killed a woman crossing Highway 54 near Brazito on Tuesday morning, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The patrol said in an online crash report that Rachel Welch, 46, of Eldon, died after a 2007 Lincoln Navigator hit her while she was crossing the highway at Route E at about 11 a.m.

Welch was in the passing lane crossing Highway 54 when an SUV driven by Harold Brooks, 84, of Montreal, Missouri, struck her. Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler pronounced Welch dead at the scene.

Welch's death was the first traffic death of November in the patrol's Troop F, which covers much of mid-Missouri.
