Police respond to early morning shooting in south Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police officers responded to a shooting early Wednesday morning in a south Columbia neighborhood.

Police department spokesman Jeff Pitts said in an email officers were called to the intersection of W. Southampton Drive and Royal Lythum Drive around 1:30 a.m. for a report of shots heard.

Police searched the area and found several shell casings, Pitts said.

Officers said no people were hurt and no property was damaged from the shooting.

The police spokesman said multiple witnesses reported hearing a motorcycle leave the area around the time of the shooting.

Pitts said the shooting is under investigation but there was no suspect information to provide as of Wednesday morning.
