Columbia man accused of pulling gun after fight
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man faces two felony charges after he was accused of trying to fire a gun at a car following a fight in south Columbia Tuesday night.
Columbia police arrested 30-year-old Terrell Johnson after he allegedly attempted to shoot a Ruger SR-762, an assault-style rifle, at someone following the incident.
Johnson's probable cause statement said officers were called to the scene just before 7 p.m. on a report of a disturbance involving a firearm.
Witnesses told police Johnson was beaten outside of his residence located on Brandon. The witnesses said the other person got in a car and left when Johnson went inside his residence and grabbed the rifle.
The court document said Johnson was unable to fire the gun.
Johnson alleged to police a man hit him several times in the face before the person walked away. Officers said Johnson admitted to then going inside his residence retrieving the gun and trying to shoot at the man in the vehicle as it drove away.
Police served a search warrant at the residence and found the rifle in Johnson's room. The safety was in the "fire" position, court documents said.
Officers didn't say what led up to the fight.
Online court records say Johnson faces a felony count each of assault and armed criminal action.
The records included Johnson's bond was set at $10,000. He was not in jail custody as of Thursday afternoon.
