COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Crews investigated a gas leak at a building in central Columbia after storms rolled through the area Monday afternoon.

Columbia firefighters and Ameren workers were called to the House Mart Realty and Columbia Spay and Neuter Project building at 206 Austin Ave. The businesses were evacuated, an Ameren spokesperson said.

The building sits behind Hickman High School.

Fire department spokesman Brad Fraizer said firefighters closed the road in front of the businesses while Ameren crews worked in the area.

A spokesperson with Ameren said a lightning strike may have caused the gas leak.

Crews went door-to-door in the area checking if there were any other gas leaks.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Team is tracking another round of storms that could develop over the next 24 hours.
