COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department said a man was arrested after he was involved in a crash that closed the Millersburg exit on Interstate 70 East Wednesday afternoon.

Police department spokesman Jeff Pitts said in an email Derek Gillette, 41, of Fulton, was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges.

Officers tried to pull over Gillette for speeding around 3:30 p.m. but he continued driving, Pitts said. The spokesman said Gillette crashed into another vehicle that was on the shoulder of the highway after a short chase.

The spokesman said police called firefighters and EMS to the scene as a precaution but no people were hurt in the wreck.

State troopers and Callaway County sheriff's deputies also responded to the scene. Boone County emergency crews sent out an alert about the wreck.

Police said Gillette was arrested on suspicion of delivery of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

Boone County Jail records said Gillette was released from custody after posting a $3,000 bond.

As of Thursday, charges had yet to be filed in the case.
