SEC leaders meet in person to discuss fall sports

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (KMIZ)

The SEC will not make a decision on fall sports until late July, according to commissioner Greg Sankey.

Sankey met with all 14 SEC athletic directors on Monday at the league office in Birmingham. It was the first in-person meeting since March.

"It is clear that current circumstances related to COVID-19 must improve and we will continue to closely monitor developments around the virus on a daily basis," Sankey said in a release from the conference "In the coming weeks we will continue to meet regularly with campus leaders via videoconferences and gather relevant information while guided by medical advisors. We believe that late July will provide the best clarity for making the important decisions ahead of us."

According to the release, the athletic directors spoke about scheduling, COVID-19 testing, game management and other matters relating to fall sports.

On Monday, the Patriot League announced it will cancel its fall sports seasons - joining the Ivy League.
