Weather Alert Day: Tracking heavy rain and potential flash flooding

TONIGHT: Scattered storms early, with heavy rain moving in overnight for areas along and north of I-70 through morning. Rain amounts will be between 2-4" with the highest amounts across northeast Missouri. Lows in the low 70s.

TOMORROW: Rain and storms early, becoming hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s and heat indices near 100.

EXTENDED: An upper level low continues to lift northeast across Missouri this evening with moisture also streaming in from the southwest. Heavy rain will taper off early Tuesday for much of Mid-Missouri, allowing heat and humidity to dominate the area. By Tuesday night, moisture ramps up again, unfortunately putting some of the same areas hit hard by heavy rain Monday night/Tuesday morning under the gun for another shot at storms. Rainfall totals through early Wednesday morning will be on the order of 1-4", with locally higher amounts in our northeastern counties. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Wednesday morning for much of Mid-Missouri. Once this system exits, we're in for dangerous heat and humidity through the end of the weak. Heat indices are expected to get near or above 100 on Wednesday and Thursday, with spotty storms possible each day. The heat and humidity continues into the holiday weekend with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices in the upper 90s. July 4 will be mostly sunny and hot with a low chance for storms.
