Woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia woman is accused of stealing nearly $37,000 worth of jewelry from a home she had been cleaning.
Prosecutors charged Stephanie Hood on Thursday with felony stealing and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
According to court documents, the victims noticed several items were stolen from their home. The items missing included five pieces of jewelry valued at $36,849, nearly $2,000 in cash and prescription pills.
The victims told investigators that they believed Hood took the items because she was cleaning their home for several months. They said she was the only person to come inside since the beginning of April because of COVID-19.
According to court documents, investigators discovered Hood pawned stolen rings at two different pawn shops. Police said they were able to recover two of the rings from the shops.
Police arrested Hood at her home on Wednesday. During the arrest, officers said they discovered prescription pills and methamphetamine.
Court documents said authorities have previously arrested Hood on suspicion of having drugs and various thefts.
Online court records show Hood's bond was set at $15,000. She has an initial arraignment scheduled for Friday afternoon.
There was no attorney listed for Hood as of Thursday night.
