Only one arrest made in at least nine Columbia May shootings

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Following a Monday shooting that left one person with life-threatening injuries, Columbia police have not released any suspect information.

On Monday, Columbia police served a search warrant in the 2700 block of Quail Drive in part of the ongoing investigation. They originally responded to the area at 2:10 a.m. Monday for the shooting.

Police could not confirm whether they found any evidence, but ABC 17 News crews saw them taking items from the home.

They also handcuffed three people during the investigation. However, all three were released and a sergeant at the scene said this was standard protocol when serving a warrant.

Kenny Ndayiragije lives just a couple houses down from where the Quail Drive shooting happened.

"When I heard the gun, I told my son that he should not go outside," Ndayiragije said. "I went to the door to make sure that the house was completely closed, otherwise the person with the gun would have come inside."

Several other neighbors said typically, the crime happens when non-residents come to homes on the area. One family said when they hear gunshots, everyone in the house moves to one room to stay safe.

This is the ninth shooting Columbia police confirmed in the month of May. However, only one resulted in an arrest.

Here is a summary of the incidents:

• May 5: 1600 block of Hanover Blvd. Police did not report any damage or injuries, and did not release any suspect information.
• May 15: Petro Mart at 1004 N. Stadium Blvd. The front door of the business was damaged. Police said they did not make any arrests.
• May 16: 1400 block of Bodie Dr. Police found bullet holes in a home. Police were searching for a white or silver SUV from which the shots were fired that was caught on surveillance video. Police have not said they found the car or suspect.
• May 16: 4400 block of Derby Ridge Dr. A car and house were damaged. No suspect information was released.
• May 19: 2900 block of Northland Dr. According to court documents, police found a coffee can with gunshot damage. They arrested Tre' Cooper for armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, among others.
• May 20: 4300 block of Derby Ridge Dr. Police found evidence of a shooting after a reported robbery. No suspects were identified.
• May 21: 3500 block of Zinnia Dr. A home was damaged. No suspect information was released.
• May 22: Jay Dix Station Park off of Scott Blvd. Police found evidence of a shooting, but did not release any information about injuries or suspects in the incident.
• May 25: 2700 block of Quail Dr. One person sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. No suspect information was released.

According to dispatch records, police also responded to three other shots fired incidents:

• May 20: East Broadway and N. College Ave.
• May 21: 2600 block of Quail Dr.
• May 22: 400 block of N. Providence Rd.

No suspect information has been released in the Monday shooting. The victim's condition is unknown as of 3:00 p.m.
