COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was sentenced to eight years in prison on Monday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography.

Adam Boaz, 29, was arrested in February after Boone County deputies said they received a tip from Google.

Online court records say Boaz pleaded guilty to a count each of possession of child pornography and failure to register as a sex offender. Boone County Circuit Court Judge Jeff Harris sentenced Boaz to serve six years for the child pornography charge and two years for failing to register as a sex offender.

The court records said Boaz will serve the prison sentences at the same time. He has been held in the Boone County Jail since his arrest. Court records said he will get credit for time served.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force said Boaz had multiple child pornography files on his phone when he was arrested.

Boaz previously pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree child molestation in 2009, online court records said. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the child molestation plea.
