Man wanted by police arrested in north Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man wanted by police was arrested in north Columbia Wednesday afternoon. A large police presence was reported at the intersection of Holly Avenue and Parker Street.

Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones said officers arrested Roderick Jones around 2:40 p.m.

Jones had an arrest warrant for allegedly using a firearm in a domestic assault incident that happened back on Feb. 16. He faces a count each of first-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon, according to online court records.

CPD observed Roderick Jones, 36, of Columbia, in the 2300 block of Parker Street on April 16. The officer had knowledge that Jones had active warrants for Domestic Assault and Unlawful Use of a Weapon as Jones used a firearm in a domestic assault on February 16, 2020.

Columbia police searched an area in north Columbia last week for Jones after he was seen in the 2300 block of Parker Street.

An ABC 17 News crew said at least 10 police vehicles responded to the scene, including the bearcat. Some officers had riot gear and a K9 unit was called in, the crew said.

It's unclear how many people were taken into custody or what crimes were committed.
