Man in custody, recovering from K-9 bite following shooting in north Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man is in police custody at a Columbia hospital after getting bitten by a police K-9.

Columbia police responded to a shooting in the 5400 block of Baseline Place shortly after 11 p.m. Friday. According to police, no one was injured in the shooting.

Police said they pulled over a vehicle on Rangeline Street that was believed to be involved in the shooting.

Boone County Joint Communications sent out a text alert shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday.

"Highway 763 NB at Brown School blocked due to police incident," the alert read. "Choose alternate route."

Authorities told ABC 17 News crews at the scene a police K-9 bit the driver of the car. The man was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital.

Police are investigating the shooting at Baseline Place. Officials said it was not yet clear who fired the weapon in the shooting.
