Teen accused in connection with deadly February shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A juvenile was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with a deadly February shooting on Doris Drive.
The Columbia Police Department said a 16-year-old suspect was detained on Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The suspect is being held by juvenile authorities, police said.
Justin Shelton, 25, and Gracie Avery, 20, both of Columbia, face charges in Taylor's killing.
Officers say Taylor and the juvenile suspect entered a residence in the 1400 block of Doris Drive on Feb. 5. The resident told police that the juvenile suspect ran from the scene after Taylor had been shot.
Avery's probable cause statement said she admitted to Taylor's guardian and another person that she set up the drug deal.
Court documents say Shelton allegedly admitted to Taylor's guardian that he went to the residence to buy drugs and that he held people inside the house at gunpoint.
As of Wednesday, Shelton was held in the Boone County Jail without bail. He faces a charge of second-degree murder.
Online court records say Avery was released from jail on her own recognizance on March 23 after she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of hindering the prosecution of a felony. She had originally been charged with second-degree murder.
A hearing is scheduled in her case for May 11.
