Tracking chances for strong storms Thursday night and Friday
TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy and mild. Lows in the low 50s.
THURSDAY: A cold front slides in from the north, increasing cloud cover. Temperatures soar into the low 70s, with a round of storms moving in after midnight.
EXTENDED: Storms along the front on Thursday night and Friday morning have the potential of bringing brief heavy rain, lightning, and isolated large hail. The overall severe weather threat is somewhat low. Showers and storms move out Friday morning, and the front lifts back north as a warm front, keeping us in the warm sector of this system. Depending on how quickly the atmosphere recovers, we could see another round of thunderstorms by late afternoon into Friday night that could become strong to severe with damaging wind gusts and potentially some large hail. Rain and a few storms linger into Saturday morning, with the best threat for severe weather staying mainly to our east. Temperatures reach the upper 60s to around 70 before falling into the 40s Saturday night. Sunday is dry and breezy with highs getting up to around 60. Rain chances next week will be a bit more limited.
