COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia Public Works crews will partake in its annual dry snow run Thursday, according to a Tuesday press release from the city.

The event is designed “to test readiness and familiarize drivers with routes” for the upcoming winter season.

The release says plows will leave between 10-10:30 a.m. from the Grissum Building on 1313 Lakeview Ave. Newer drivers will be paired with veteran drivers “to navigate routes, map potential obstacles and ensure all trucks perform safely and effectively.”

Residents may see city snowplows throughout the rest of the day.

The release says the Street Division maintains about 1,465 lane miles of roads and 1,100 cul de sacs each winter. Priority routes make up more than 691 lane miles and connect residents to emergency services, hospitals, schools and major transit corridors, the release says.
