JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The cause of a duplex fire in Jefferson City was ruled accidental, and suffered significant damage early Tuesday morning.

According to assistant fire chief Jake Holee with the Jefferson City Fire Department, firefighters were called to the 2100 block of Red Oak Dr. just before 3 a.m. after getting a report of a fire on the deck of the duplex.

Firefighters arrived and found flames in the attic coming through the roof.

The fire caused significant damage to the roof and the inside of the duplex.

ABC 17 News arrived at the scene just after 4 a.m. and saw multiple fire trucks and personnel in the area.

No injuries were reported, but four people were displaced due to the fire, according to Holee. The people displaced are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

In the press release, JCFD reminds people to use caution when disposing of smoking materials, fireplace ashes and other potentially smoldering materials.

A total of six units were on scene, five from Jefferson City and one from Cole County. A Cole County ambulance was also seen at the scene.
