No one hurt after vehicle fire at Columbia Regional Airport

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

No one was hurt after a vehicle caught fire early Sunday morning while in a shuttle lot at the Columbia Regional Airport.

Vehicle owner Carolyn Smith said she noticed smoke coming from her car after she parked around 6:15 a.m., but no warning lights were on. After turning the vehicle off, Smith got out of the car and opened the hood to find a fire in the engine.

Southern Boone County Fire Protection District put the fire out, but it appeared to have caused significant fire damage and charring to the front end of the vehicle.

"God will take care of it. I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to pay for this, but God put me where I'm at. God has a reason. He made sure that nobody was hurt," Smith said.

Airport Director Mike Parks said the cars on either side of Smith's had some potential damage from fire exposure. An ABC 17 News reporter on scene saw that one car appeared to have some damage to the trim above the tire well.

The fire didn't disrupt airport operations, including flights or the shuttle.
