COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Tiger basketball team has had plenty of buzz around it entering the new season.

With a top 15 recruiting and transfer class, head coach Dennis Gates is primed to make strides this year. As the team enters the final weeks of the off season, the team hosted a pro day to put those talents on display for more than a dozen professional scouts.

"I'm definitely excited about, our pro day. The turnout that we've had, the representation of several teams. Some for the guys and some for their future," coach Gates said. "It's obviously an investment, and it shows that their improvement is happening over a period of time."

Just six players are set to return for the Tigers this season. While the group is still learning how to operate together, coach Gates is doing his best to eliminate and patch up some of that unfamiliarity.

"My job is to get a core of guys, a core of talent into the right spots," Gates said. "I'm making sure that our inexperience together doesn't show up because we'll be in some tough battles early in our season."

Mizzou men's basketball will take the court for the first time in an exhibition against Kansas State, which is slated for Friday, Oct. 23.
