Tracking a steamy Saturday before showers and storms return by late evening

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and humid with lows in the low to mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Partly cloudy, hot, and humid with highs in the low to mid-90s.

EXTENDED: We don't cool much overnight with lows in the mid-70s and a heat advisory still in effect for the zone south of the Missouri River until 8:00 Saturday night. We'll remain rain-free for Saturday with highs in the low to mid-90s and a heat index between 100-103. A cold front will finally bring us some rain and storms after midnight into Sunday morning, and a few across northern Missouri could bring isolated strong winds and small hail with a level 1/5 severe risk in place. That risk shifts south along the I-70 corridor on Sunday afternoon where the front will be stalled out, although the coverage and confidence in severe weather on Sunday is somewhat low due to morning clouds and rain limiting instability. Showers and storms could fire up again Sunday night into Monday along the boundary, especially south of the I-70 corridor. Rain amounts between Saturday night and Monday will be around 1". We'll be significantly cooler on Monday with highs only reaching the mid-70s, and even cooler on Tuesday morning as the front will be well to our south and surface high pressure builds across the Great Lakes, bringing cooler air in from the north for much of the week. Highs will be slightly below or near normal all week in the mid-upper 70s, and we can look forward to cooler nights in the mid-upper 50s.
