Man seriously hurt in crash with Chariton County patrol vehicle

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An 82-year-old Buckner man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a crash invovling a Chariton County Sheriff's Department vehicle just before noon Sunday.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the man was driving a 2021 Honda Pioneer Side-by-Side UTV westbound on Highway 24, one mile east of Brunswick in Chariton County.

The report states a 59-year-old man from Anabel was driving westbound in a 2020 Dodge Durango when the other driver hit the sheriff department's vehicle multiple times.

The man driving the UTV overcorrected and went off the south side of the road, throwing the man from the UTV.

The UTV driver was flown to University Hospital with serious injuries. The deputy with the Sheriff's Department was not hurt in the crash.

The UTV driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the report. The UTV was totaled, while the Sheriff's Department vehicle had moderate damage and was driven from the crash site.
