Locked in to a high mortgage rate? We want to hear your story

By Samantha Delouya, CNN

(CNN) — A common mantra among real estate agents and mortgage brokers is “marry the house, date the rate.” Buying a home is a long-term commitment, but your starting mortgage interest rate payment isn’t permanent, they say.

Some homeowners who locked in high mortgage rates in recent years may have been counting on rates falling enough to give them a chance to refinance.

For many, that window of opportunity still hasn’t opened.

Average mortgage rates have steadily climbed higher since the start of the Iran war in February. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 6.66% last week, according to Freddie Mac — higher than it was one year ago.
