An NFL MVP made an appearance at Mizzou fall camp, on Monday.

As the Tigers start their final full week of fall camp, former NFL quarterback Cam Newton paid a visit to Columbia to hang out with the team and take in a practice.

Newton has quite a few connections to Columbia, most recently serving as a mentor to MU wide receiver Cayden Lee, who transferred in from Ole Miss in the offseason. Lee said that Newton helped him a lot in his transfer portal process, saying that Columbia felt like a good fit for him.

The 2015 NFL MVP is familiar with the Mizzou coaching staff, as head coach Eli Drinkwitz was on the Auburn staff, working in offensive quality control, during the 2010 Auburn national championship run, when Newton was the quarterback. Running backs coach Curtis Luper was also on that staff.

Newton ended his NFL career with a bevy of accolades, including being named the 2015 NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, the 2011 Offensive Rookie of the Year and three Pro Bowl nods. Prior to his run in the league, the quarterback played at Auburn, where he led the Tigers to a historic national title and won the Heisman Trophy.
