Tracking one final day of dangerous heat before cooler weather arrives

TODAY: I'm tracking a complex of showers and storms moving out of the area throughout the early morning hours, which will leave us with another mostly dry and dangerously hot afternoon, except for a couple of isolated daytime storms. Temperatures walking out the door will begin in the mid-70s, but by the afternoon hours, mid-to-upper 90s can be expected, with heat index values in the 105-110 range as winds blow out of the southwest at 5-10 mph, gusting up to 15 mph. This will be the final ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day for extreme heat over the next 7 days.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking more chances of isolated to scattered storms during the evening and overnight as temperatures gradually drop into the mid to upper 70s. Winds will continue to blow out of the south at 5-10 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking more isolated storm chances throughout Sunday, and although it will be hot, with temperatures in the low 90s by the afternoon hours, humidity will be on the lower end, keeping heat index values from meeting the extreme criteria recently. This is thanks to a cold front that will be passing through the region Sunday night into Monday morning, which will bring slightly better chances of showers and storms along with it. Behind this, milder weather can be expected, as temperatures by Monday afternoon are only expected to get into the low to mid 80s. Tuesday and Wednesday, another gradual warming trend will arrive, but this won't last long, as more showers and storms with incoming boundaries will drop temperatures back down into the low 80s by the end of next week.
