Sheryl Crow to perform National Anthem at Mizzou’s season opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A nine-time Grammy Award winner and Rock & Rock Hall of Fame inductee will be taking center stage at Faurot Field for Mizzou football's season opener, on Thursday, Sept. 3.

On Tuesday, Tiger Athletics announced that Mizzou alum Sheryl Crow will be performing the national anthem ahead of MU's game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. It will not only mark the first game with Mizzou's new $250 million north end zone, but also the first game of a season that will celebrate Memorial Stadium's 100th anniversary.

Crow, a native of Kennet, Missouri, earned her degree for Mizzou in 1984, before riding a train to superstardom. Signature songs like 'All I Wanna Do,' 'If It Makes You Happy,' and 'Soak Up the Sun,' have led her to nine Grammy Awards and numerous multi-platinum recordings.

In 2023, Crow was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which is one of the music industry's highest honors.

It won't be the first time that the Mizzou alum makes her return to Columbia, though, as she served as the Homecoming grand marshal in 2003 and also returned for a benefit concert in 2015.

“Hey, Mizzou fans, I'm so excited to see all of you guys at the ‘Kickoff in CoMo’ home opener,” Crow said in a press release. “Can't wait to get back in town. M-I-Z!”

“We’re thrilled to invite Mizzou fans to welcome Sheryl Crow back home to Mizzou and Memorial Stadium for what promises to be a special night to kick off our 2026 football season,” Mizzou Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief of External Operations Eric Morrison said in a press release. “Sheryl is an incredibly accomplished artist, a proud Missouri native and an outstanding ambassador for the University of Missouri and Mizzou Athletics. We’re excited to have her back where her Mizzou story began and to share this special moment with Tiger fans.”
