Tracking strong to severe storms tonight with cooler weather to follow

TONIGHT: A Weather Alert Day is in effect until 10 pm tonight for the potential of strong to severe storms across mid-Missouri. Storms are already beginning to fire off to the northwest, but the primary threat tonight will be along and east of Highway 63. Pop-ups look to be the initial threat, with a more organized system developing closer to 7 pm tonight. As far as severity, winds up to 60 mph is the main risk, but weak, isolated tornadoes as well as nickel-sized hail are possible. Storms will exit the region before midnight.

TOMORROW: Cold air in the wake of tonight's thunderstorms will cool temperatures considerably, with highs struggling to rise towards the mid-70s. Lingering rain showers tomorrow afternoon could leave some areas in the upper 60s throughout the day. Expect the last of the showers to exit the region by the evening.

EXTENDED: Sunday on looks calm and sunny, as temperatures quickly rise back into the mid 80s by Monday. While the majority of the week looks dry, there is a slight potential for some showers Wednesday through Friday. Otherwise, we'll enjoy plenty of sunshine and seasonable temperatures stretching into next weekend.
