Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes answers questions at first day of camp

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQ2)

Kansas City Chiefs training camp kicked off this week, and players arrived Friday.

Practices have yet to get underway, but the quarterbacks and rookies on the team reported to Missouri Westran State University, with some taking the stand to answer questions from the media.

The main headline swirling around the team is the status of star Patrick Mahomes. After suffering a torn ACL in week 15 against the Chargers, the Chiefs' medical staff has cleared the QB to return to camp.

"Pat's doing great, and right now he's got clearance to practice and do all the different periods that we have in this camp, and then we'll just take it day by day and see how he does," said head coach Andy Reid.

"It's a lot of hard work and just day to day continuing to do it over and over again," said Mahomes. "It was always the goal to be able to practice when we got to camp."

Along with the quarterbacks, rookies are also set to begin workouts in the next few days. This will be the first chance they have to lean in and learn the systems since offseason activities.

"The workload is going to be tough obviously, but they'll push through it," said Reid. "These three days are great for rookies to give them just an introduction to the offense again, the defense again, special teams again where you can slow it down a little."

The full team will report to camp on Wednesday, July 29th, with players continuing to roll in as the start date approaches
