Capital City pursues second district title in as many years

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Off the back of one of the teams most successful seasons, the Cavaliers are hoping for a second district crown in program history.

Capital city will look to return to, and go beyond the district championship as they gear up for the 2026 slate. However, they'll have to do it without some of their most impactful player on the offensive end. The team graduated its starting quarterback, two starting tailbacks, and their wide receiver one, but head coach Joe Collier is confident in those set to step up.

"Those guys playing were three year starters, and so we can't really replace them per se, but just really regrouping. We think we got some good football players, and we think we can develop our guys into being competitive, good football players," said coach Collier.

However even with those losses on offense, they did leave something behind: Influence. The seniors set the tone for the underclassmen, and showed them what it takes to produce at a high level and be successful deep into a season.

"Thankfully we had some, in that class that just left, good leaders," said Collier. "Belief in what we do trickles down, so these guys see what those guys did by doing the things that we do every day, and they're not going to steer away from that."

After finally breaking through and bringing home the only district title in Capital City's history, many would find it hard to stay motivated. But the pursuit of a second championship has the Cavaliers just as hungry as the first.

"I mean you want to do it again, that's generally what we want. We want to follow the same script. We've got some different football players, and it's not going to look totally the same, but we want to stick to the same script."

Up Next - Cap City will begin its pursuit of back-to-back district golds south of the boarder against Conway (AR). That game is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. on August 28.
