COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -

First responders say a tanker with ammonium nitrate did not spill after tipping over in Morgan County on Sunday night.

Gravois Fire Protection District chief Dustin Hancock said in a news release that several agencies helped respond to a crash on Lake Trail Road around 7 p.m. on July 12. Hancock said the driver of a tanker truck made a wrong turn onto the road and tipped over. The truck was hauling 39,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate.

Hancock said the agency called in the Cole County Hazardous Material Team to help work the crash. Initial assessments found that nothing had spilled from the tanker, and the driver of the truck was not physically injured.

Crews evacuated people from three homes nearby and shut down the road in order to work the crash. The people living in the two homes furthest from the crash returned home once crews determined the scene was safe, while the people living closest to the crash were evacuated for the entirety of the work.

Hancock said the trucking company recovered the ammonium nitrate with a different truck and a towing company helped get the truck involved in the crash. The news release did not say which company was hauling the material.

"There are no remaining environmental or public safety concerns associated with this incident, and the area has been determined to be safe for normal use," Hancock said.

Several agencies helped with the response, Hancock said, including Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District and Versailles Rural Fire Protection District which helped cover the district's territory during the call.
