Cat dies in Mexico house fire

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A cat died in a house fire in Mexico on Saturday.

According to a release from the Mexico Public Safety Department, they responded to reports of a house fire in the 300 block of E. Orange St. at 11:40 a.m.

When crews arrived, they found flames coming out of the back of the home. The fire was put out, but the back room of the home had significant fire damage and the rest of the home had severe smoke damage.

According to the release, an investigation found the fire started near some candle-making equipment the resident of the home had used just before going outside.
