Mizzou catcher enters name into transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The overhaul to Mizzou baseball's roster continues, as another player enter his name into the transfer portal, on Monday night.

Junior catcher Mateo Serna announced on his social media that he is hitting the portal, after three seasons in Columbia. He said, "I am forever grateful for the opportunities the University of Missouri has afforded me and I will always appreciate the time I spent in Columbia, Mo. Thank you to my coaches, staff, tutors and professors for your support over the last three years."

The Florida native became a consistent presence behind home plate for skipper Kerrick Jackson, as he appeared in 46 games in 2026, making 44 starts as the primary backstop.

At the dish, Serna hit .240 on the year, going (37-for-154) with a pair of home runs, five doubles and 21 RBI. The switch-hitting catcher tallied 10 multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games, putting together an 11-game on-base streak in his junior campaign.

During the SEC Tournament, he showed his experience behind the dish, going an impressive 7-for-8 on ABS challenges and making headlines in the debut game of the ball-strike technology in MU's win over No. 17 Ole Miss. In that win over the Rebels, the catcher also went 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored.
