Tennessee spoils senior night for Mizzou Softball

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The eighth-ranked Volunteers secured the weekend series win over the Tigers, 4-2.

Mizzou landed the first blow of the day in its first trip to the plate. With a runner on second, Stefania Abruscato roped a ball that danced down the right field line. The single gave Addy Waits enough time to round third and put the Tigers ahead 1-0 in the first.

Marissa McCann was able to hold the Vols off of the scoresheet until the third, when Ella Dodge send a home run far over the wall in right field. The Tigers were able to stop the run in the third after the long ball, but two more runs came around for the visitors in the fourth, and after a shallow RBI single in the fifth, head coach Larissa Anderson and company found themselves in a 4-1 hole.

In the bottom part of the fifth, Sidney Forrester was able to bring in a second run for the home side on a fielders choice ground out. But Mizzou wasn't able to claw any closer, dropping game two and the series to Tennessee.

The Tigers now need to win at least one game in the SEC Tournament in order to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, and will need to win two if they cannot steal game three from the Vols.

Up Next - Mizzou is back at home for the regular season finale against Tennessee. First pitch for the game is currently set for noon on Saturday, May 2.
