Mizzou baseball gets swept in second straight conference series

NORMAN, Okla. (KMIZ)

The Tigers fell to No. 14 ranked Oklahoma 8-4, completing the weekend sweep for the Sooners.

Head coach Kerrick Jackson and his team entered Sunday's contest in search of the team's first win in nearly two weeks. But despite preventing any runs coming in the first, Oklahoma managed to be the first team on the board once again in game three.

The Sooners opened the second with a solo home run from Brendan Brock, and a triple from Camnden Johnson. Four more batters reached base in a row to put Mizzou in a 4-0 hole after just two innings of action.

Oklahoma found similar success in the fourth. Johnson returned to the plate, this time with two runners on base, and blasted a home run to right field to extend the lead to eight.

From there through, the bats turned ice cold for the home side, and allowed Mizzou to start crawling back into the game. Kam Durnin hit his fourth home run of the season to score the first Tiger run of the day. Freshman Blaize Ward also brought home two more in the eighth and Eric Maisonet added a fourth unanswered score with an RBI single in the ninth.

However, the late surge was quickly stopped after that, ending the game with a 8-4 Sooner win.

On the mound, Mizzou went through seven pitchers, with none facing more than 12 batters. Offensively, Kaden Peer was an impressive 3-4 from the plate despite not picking up an RBI, accounting for nearly half of the teams eight total hits.

Up Next - The Tigers return to Taylor Stadium to take on SIUE in a midweek match up. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21.
