COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One Tiger is putting the nation on notice in his first season in Columbia.

The College Baseball Foundation announced that Mizzou infielder Eric Maisonet was named to the Brooks Wallace Award watchlist. The honor is given to the best shortstop in college baseball. The junior is one of 100 players to be named to the watchlist.

Maisonet has played in 11 games for Mizzou since transferring from Vernon college, making an immediate impact. He's currently batting .310 with a triple and a home run while helping the Tigers jump to a 10-2 record. Defensively, he's been a steady presence along the base path, with a .935 fielding percentage.

The Brooks Wallace Award is one of four awards given out weekly by the College Baseball Foundation, with the best shortstop being named at the end of the season.
