Mizzou men’s basketball collects dominant win against South Carolina

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

In a game where the Tigers lead wire to wire, the team picked up its sixth conference win to improve to 16-7 after beating South Carolina 78-59.

Mizzou jumped out of the gates, leading by as many as 13 in the first half. Mark Mitchell nearly recorded a double double in just the first 20 minutes, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds before halftime. The Gamecocks managed to make a late surge to end the period, but head coach Dennis Gates and company were still in front at the break 34-30.

The second half saw the Tigers come out even more dominant and aggressive, going on a 10-3 run in the first five minutes. Mizzou's suffocating defense held South Carolina at bay, and never gave up the lead as it continued to grow until the final buzzer sounded.

Jayden Stone lead the team in scoring with 22 while shooting 7-9 from the field and 3-4 from three. Mark Mitchell also bagged a 20 point night, along with 11 boards and five assists. As a unit, the Tigers limited the Gamecocks to less than 31 percent shooting in the game, and just 13 percent from long range.
