Tracking showers tonight, strong winds and storms early Sunday
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with light showers possible late. Temperatures holding steady in the upper 50s.
TOMORROW: Rain and storms early, strong winds and getting colder through the day. Temperatures falling into the 40s through the afternoon.
EXTENDED: A Weather Alert Day will be in effect from noon Sunday through 9:00 a.m. Monday for the potential of post-frontal winds reaching 50 mph. The western half of the state is already under a wind advisory. Power outages are possible as winds begin to pick up. There's also a risk for a few strong storms between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., but the greater potential looks to be to our east from St. Louis into Illinois where damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph are possible. I am not very concerned about a severe risk in Mid-Missouri given how quickly the front will be through here. A few snow showers will be possible as winds shift to the northwest in the afternoon, but very little impact is expected. Following Sunday's front, temperatures drop into the teens by Sunday night, allowing strong winds to push wind chills a few degrees below zero through Monday morning. Upper high pressure allows temperatures to rise a bit next week, but it's still cooler than normal Tuesday as upper northwest winds prevail. It will be an overall quiet week with temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s through Friday, and a chilly New Year's Eve with lows in the mid-20s. Next weekend looks a bit more mild with highs in the upper 40s again by Saturday.
