Mizzou women’s basketball falls to Troy in high-scoring affair

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou's miscues and defense proved costly in its second loss of the season.

Troy (4-1) hit the century mark and forced 18 turnovers in Thursday's non-conference matinee, leading to a 100-82 loss for the Tigers (4-2) inside Mizzou Arena. It's just the second time since the 1999-2000 campaign that MU has surrendered 100 points or more in a single game.

After both teams tallied 115 combined points in the first half, Mizzou returned to the locker room with a 61-54 deficit at halftime. Neither team held a larger lead than five points for the first 15 minutes of action, but the Trojans built themselves a seven-point advantage with a 9-2 scoring run, bookended by two of the team's 10 three-pointers in the first half.

Despite the seven-point deficit, the Tigers suffered from a flat start to the second half. MU allowed a 23-5 scoring rally to tip off the third quarter, which guided the Trojans to their largest lead of the game. Although Mizzou limited Troy to just 12 points in the final 10 minutes, the 25-point hole was too much to overcome, cementing its first loss to a mid-major opponent since Dec. 18, 2024.

Shannon Dowell (25) and Grace Slaughter (21) paced the Tigers with a pair of 20-point performances. Chloe Sotell (11) was Mizzou's only other player to reach double figures, leading the team in three-pointers (3).

Collectively, MU shot 43.1% (25-of-58) from the field and 40.7% (11-of-27) from beyond the arc. However, the Trojans also performed above 40% in both those categories while out-rebounding the Tigers by 10 boards (45-35), including a 13-rebound margin on the offensive glass.

Up next - The Tigers will take a three-game road trip to the Sunshine State, starting with a showdown against Washington State on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in the WBCA Showcase.
