Maya Sands earns third SEC libero of the year, Mizzou volleyball earns a pair of all-conference awards
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou volleyball's Maya Sands just joined an elite group of SEC players.
On Wednesday, she was named the conference libero of the year. This is her third consecutive time winning the award, becoming one of three all-time to win the honor in three straight years.
Since joining the Tigers in 2022, Sands has swept this award, being the first and only MU athlete to claim it. Mizzou is now one of two schools to have won the award three or more times since its creation in 2009.
The senior led the SEC with 490 digs over the course of the season, 70 more than second place. In addition libero of the year, Sands also picked up an all-SEC second team honor, the third time in her career being named to a postseason conference squad.
Fellow senior Caylen Alexander joined her on the all-SEC second team. In her first season with the Tigers she led Mizzou with 390 kills and finished fourth in points per set and digs. She finished seventh in the conference in service aces, and second on the team in double-doubles.
